Bama Tide - Shannon Nemechek Page 5

The smell of bacon and eggs cooking and Mac banging in the kitchen finally woke her and she wrapped in the blanket that Mac had covered them with the night before. “Wow, that smells amazing.” She said walking towards Mac as he was placing the eggs on the plate.

“I was just getting ready to bring you a plate. Are you ready to eat?” Mac asked as he pulled the chair from under the table.

“I am famished. I haven’t had a workout like that in a very long time.” She replied.

Mac thought about it, almost didn’t ask her but curiosity was just too overwhelming. “So how long is a very long time?” He smiled.

“Well, a couple of years. I was engaged until I caught him with his law partner, but he never really measured up to you. What about you?” Lin sat and poked at her eggs waiting for his response.

“Been a lot longer for me. To be honest I’ve had a string of one-night stands but couldn’t bring myself to commit to anyone but you and besides I got two good hands and put them to good use.”

Lindsey looked up at Mac her face still flushed, she struggled at first to find the right words “How did it happen?”

  How did what happen?”

“The scars.” She replied trying not to stare.

“Oh these? He laughed. “Well we got pinned down, and I took a couple of big bullets.” He grinned “Fucked me up pretty good. I lost a lot of blood. Almost died, my buddy Jacob saved my life, he applied a pressure bandage to my chest, couple tourniquets to my leg and arm, then dragged me about a thousand yards to safety or about as safe as we could be. They called in a medivac for me and a couple of others and now, I am here. Spent some time at Walter Reed then transferred into Recruiting.”

Lin smiled “You’ve worked so hard for all of this haven’t you?”

“Yeah, it’s been hard, but getting back into MMA will get me back into the infantry sooner rather than later.”

“Okay next question, what did you think about when you are using your hands?” Lin grinned.

It didn’t take long for Mac to answer “Always you Lin. Always. But my daydreams are nothing like the real thing. You have grown into one hell of a sexy, intelligent, hard headed woman and I love every bit of it and a whole lot more. You are everything I dreamed you would become.”

Mac sat down as the pair of them talked about their lives since they are parted when the question finally came up again. Mac made sure this time to choose his words carefully and wisely.

“Lin, baby. Back then I didn't have much to offer you, but my love and I was young and well I wanted you to have the world. You needed to have the full college experience without being obligated to me. I know it probably doesn't make sense but, in my mind, back then. I thought I was doing the right thing. I wanted you to be able to go to those college parties and well sleep with other guys that way when we finally and I had hoped finally got back together that you didn't regret anything. I didn't want you to stay with me and regret anything so in my young stupid head I thought that if I let you go then that maybe just maybe we would find our way back to each other. I will say it took a little longer than I had wanted but we are together now if… that is if you will have me.”

“So, what you are saying is you broke up with me because you didn’t feel like you were good enough for me?” Lindsey asked.

Mac paused for a moment “Well, Lin I wanted you to have the full college experience, I wanted you to live out your dreams.”

“But Mac my dream was to be your wife and to have babies.”

Mac smiled and replied, “Well that’s my dream too.”

  “Is?” Lindsey smiled.

“Yes, Is. That’s still my dream if you will have me?”

  “I love you too Lindsey.”

Lin sat for a few minutes not saying a word just thinking. Mac’s stomach was doing flip-flops waiting for her to say something to say anything. When she finally spoke, she said these words “Mac, I want you now and forever! I forgive you. I know now, and I will know until the day I die we were built to last. I love you Mac MacLoud will you be my forever?”

Mac grinned that “I'm up to something” grin and slipped his ha d into his jeans, stood up then kneeled at Lin’s feet holding a box in his hand he opened it “Will you marry me Lin?”

Lin didn't hesitate she grabbed the box and pulled the ring from the box “YES MAC I WILL MARRY YOU!” Mac slipped the ring onto her finger and leaned in to kiss her. “This time baby I'm never letting you go.”
